It is based on the 1885 book The Gypsy Baron by Mór Jókai, about the romance between a poor Hungarian aristocrat and a mysterious Roma-looking Turkish girl in the 18th century. Music from Johann Strauss II's operetta The Gypsy Baron, based on the same novel, is used for the film's soundtrack.。苏雪莹的母亲何瑞珍因父亲一直在外带兵打仗，导致母亲被仇家寻仇害死，与父亲何政霆断绝关系，带着苏雪莹去偏远乡下生活。。
