詹姆斯自小被绑架，绑匪夫妇担心他被带走，就把他囚禁起来。25年后詹姆斯被救，回到亲生父母家中，却感到与父母和妹妹格格不入，此外他还发现只有他看过儿童电视节目《布里斯比熊》，原来这是绑匪夫妇特地为他制作的娱乐节目。此后詹姆斯的生活变得一团糟，非常想念过去的这个儿童节目，于是他决定要用自己的方式来继续这个未完的故事……。Comedy about the proverbial genie who comes out of a bottle (a table lamp in this instance) to serve his new master. The only problem is that instead of helping his master, the genie (Burl Ives) tends to get his master (Tony Randall) into more predicaments than he gets him out of.。
